SWIMMING COMPETES IN DAY THREE OF THE PATRIOT INVITATIONAL

FAIRFAX, Vir.-The Boston College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the third day of the three day Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason, in Fairfax, Vir, on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000. The Boston College women's team took third place out of 12 teams, while the men's team finished in seventh out of nine teams.
Leading Boston College in the 100 freestyle, Nina Suryoutomo finished in sixth place. In the 100 back, Joanne Paleo took 13th and Alexis Kostopoulos finished in 15th. Taking 13th place for the Eagles in the 200 backstroke, Brianne Sullivan finished in 2:09.94. Michelle Lane took the highest finish for the Eagles in the200 breaststroke with a sixth -place finish. Following in 10th and 16th were Kostopoulos and Jennifer Whitson. Taking seventh place in the 200 butterfly was Lauren Schwartz followed by Lauren Keibler in 10th and Nicole Duffy in 11th.
Finishing less than a second a part from one and other in the 100 freestyle, Matt Baker took a sixth place finish and Chris Murphy finished in ninth. In the men's 200 backstroke, Andy Naumann took 13th place. In third, with the highest place finish for an individual Eagle today, Brian O'Neil swam the 200 breaststroke. In the same event Marc Manganiello scored points for his 11th place finish. Nick Riolo, Jack Beierle and Matthias Schildwachter finished in eighth, 12th and 15th respectively in the 200 butterfly.
In the 400 freestyle relay the women's team took fourth and 11th. While the men's team took 11th.
In the one-meter diving event senior Kristen Gray lead the women's team with a fourth place finish. Following in fifth place was Katelyn Cox and Erin Murphy finished in 11th. Boston College's lone male diver, Mike Wilt, took third place in the three-meter diving event.
In first for the women competition was Washington State and Old Dominion took first in the men's competition.
The Eagles will resume competition on Jan. 9, 2001, in San Nicholas, Aruba against the College of New Jersey after a week of training in Aruba.
