Women's Hockey Falls to Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y.-The Niagara University women's ice hockey team (6-7-0, 2-7-0 ECAC) finally pulled out a win this afternoon, as they defeated the Boston College Eagles (2-10-0, 1-10-0 ECAC) by a score of 3-0 in Niagara, N.Y.
Linda Groff opened up the scoring for the Purple Eagles this afternoon, when she hammered one in past Boston College goalie Sharon VanTuyl at 12:54 of the first period.
Just over two minutes in the second period, Brooke Bradburn whiffed in a goal when she found an open spot in the corner of the Boston College net. At the four minute mark of the second period, Candice Ceelen added the Purple Eagles' third goal of the afternoon, making the score 3-0, which is where it would end.
Eagles goalie Sharon Van Tuyl collected 31 saves, while Niagara's goalie Tania Pinelli collected the shutout with 21 saves
The Boston College women's ice hockey team will return to action tomorrow when they rematch Niagara in the second game of the weekend series at 2 p.m. in Niagara University, N.Y.
