Swimming Competes In Dat Two Of The Patriot Ivitational

FAIRFAX, Vir.-The Boston College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the second day of the three day Patriot Invitational, hosted by George Mason, in Fairfax, Vir, on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000. The Boston College women's team remains seated in third place out of 12 teams, while the men's team falls to sixth out of nine teams.
In day two of the Patriot Invitational, the 200 medley relay of sophomore Nina Suryoutomo, freshman Michelle Lane, junior Lauren Schwartz and junior Alexis Kostopoulos finish in second place, the highest finish for the day for both the men and women's team. The Eagles also took 14th place in the same event. In the 800 freestyle relay of sophomore Nicole Duffy, sophomore Christa Ehlers, Kostopoulos and sophomore Melissa Pierce took third place.
In the individual events, freshman Lauren Keibler took first in the 400 individual medley. Following in seventh place for Boston College was freshman Caitlin Healey in seventh place and Schwartz in 12th in the 400 IM. Scoring points for the Eagles in the 100 butterfly, Schwartz took ninth place and Duffy finished in 15th. In the 200 freestyle event, Duffy swam to a seventh place finish. Closely following in the same event was Pierce in ninth place. Finishing in fifth place for the Eagles was Lane inthe100 breaststroke. Backstroker, junior Brianne Sullivan, finished in 13th place in the 100 back and Suryoutomo took 15th.
In the three-meter diving, freshman Katekyn Cox lead the Eagles taking eighth place. Seniors Kristen Gray and Erin Murphy finished in nineth and13th, respectively.
For the men's swimming and diving team, the 200 medley relay of sophomore Matt Baker, senior Brian O'Neil, sophomore Matthais Schildwachter and senior Chris Murphy finished in seventh place. Boston College's second relay finished in ninth place. The men's 800 freestyle relay took tenth place followed by the second relay in 12th.
Scoring in the 400 individual medley for the Eagles was freshman Andy Naumann in eighth place. The highest individual finish for any Eagle in today's events was Schildwachter in third in the 100 butterfly. Also collecting points in the fly were freshman Gordon Glover, sophomore Nick Riolo and Keil. The only Eagle to score in the 200 freestyle was Chris Murphy tied for 13th place. Murphy collected a sixth place finish in the 100 breaststroke, while Manganeillo finished in 11th. Taking points in the 100 backstroke, Naumann took 16th place.
In first for the women is competition is Washington State and Old Dominion is in first in the men's competition.
The Eagles will resume action in the final day of the Patriot Invitational tomorrow, Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000 in Fairfax, Vir.
