The Boston College women's basketball team is ranked 22nd in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll for the 2000-2001 season.
The team was not ranked in the top 25 of the first Associated Press poll of the season, but received 75 votes for fourth place among teams also receiving votes.
Last season, the Eagles received their first-ever preseason ranking after participating in their first NCAA tournament in school history in 1999. After finishing the 1999-2000 season with a school record 26 wins and just nine losses, head coach Cathy Inglese's squad opened the current season with a 73-48 exhibition win over the National Women's Basketball League on Sunday, Nov. 5.
The Eagles will face six teams in the top seven of the preseason poll this season: No.1 Connecticut, No. 2 Tennessee, No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 6 Purdue and No. 7 Rutgers.
The Eagles will open the up the regular season on the road in the Chevrolet Classic hosted by Michigan State on Friday, Nov. 17 against Tennessee Tech at 9 p.m. The winner of that game will face the winner of the earlier Michigan State/Arkansas State game on Saturday, Nov. 18. Boston College plays one final exhibition game against EOS Malbas Sweden on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. in Conte Forum. The regular season home opener is on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. against Duke.
