Women's Ice Hockey Defeated by the Friars

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Providence's Kim Mathias notched two goals and one assist as the Providence College Friars defeated the Boston College Eagles, 4-0, in women's college hockey action on Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at PC's Schneider Arena.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead at the 14:04 mark of the first period. Jen Butsch took control of the puck behind the Eagle's net, she then skated in front and snapped a low wrist- shot that beat BC goaltender Sharon Van Tuyl, in only her second start of the season. Holley Tyng assisted on the play. At the 17:52 mark, PC's Kim Mathias extended the Friars lead to 2-0. Mathias, who collected the puck off a rebound off Van Tuyl's pads, scored her first goal of the night, from Tabb.
In the second period, Meridith Roth tallied the Friars' third goal of the game, a power-play goal at 19:26. Darlene Stephenson recieved a pass from Mathias at the blue line, she moved in on Vantuyl and fired a shot that deflected off her pads. Roth skated in the front of the net and put away the rebound, for her third goal of the season.
Mathias notched the game's final goal, her second of the night at the 3:21 mark of the third, assisted by Stephenson and and Angela Hill.
VanTuyl recorded 32 stops for the Eagles.PC goaltender Crystal Nicholas finished with 6 saves. With the loss BC dropped to 2-9-0 and 1-9-0 in league play, while the Friars improved to 8-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in ECAC action.
The Eagles will return to action when they travel this weekend to Niagara, where the Eagles will play the first of two games on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.
