Joe Mullen Inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame

Joe Mullen, who played at Boston College from 1975-79 and twice earned All-America honors, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in a ceremony in Toronto on Monday, November 13.
Among Mullen's many NHL accomplishments are three Stanley Cup championships (Calgary in 1989, Pittsburgh in 1991 and 1992), two Lady Byng Memorial Trophy awards (1986-87, 1988-89), two NHL All-Star games (1989 and 1990), and one season in which he earned NHL First Team All-Star honors and was the league's plus-minus leader (1988-89).
He began his NHL career in St. Louis (1979-80, 1981-86), before moving on to Calgary (1986-90) and Pittsburgh (1990-95). He finished his career with one season each in Boston (1995-96) and Pittsburgh (196-97).
Mullen finished his NHL career with 1063 points. He recorded 502 goals and 561 assists in 1062 games. On Feb. 7, 1995, he became the first American-born player to reach the 1000-point plateau. He remains the all-time U.S. leader.
Mullen, who Boston College jersey was retired in a ceremony on Feb. 20, 1999, finished his collegiate career with 212 points in 110 games. He currently ranks third on the Eagles' career scoring list.
Mullen now serves as assistant coach of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins.
