Eighteenth-ranked Harvard University used two goals off penalty corners late in the second half to down the homestanding, 13th-ranked Boston College field hockey team in downpour conditions at Alumni Stadium.
Harvard's Maisa Badawy scored the game-winning goal with 12:20 remaining in the game on a solo play that ran along the perimeter of the circle before she drilled in a shot from 12 yards out. She later assisted on Jane Park's insurance goal with :24 left to play. Katie Turck also assisted on the broken corner attempt. With the win, the Crimson moved to 9-3 overall. Boston College fell to 9-6 overall with the loss.
Both teams had trouble connecting on passes and forming rushes due to the harsh weather conditions on the field. As the rain continued to pour down, the field started to become saturated, making stick handling and passing increasingly difficult for both squads.
Crimson freshman Katie Zacarian made six saves for the shutout, while the Eagles' Jill Dedman made five saves - including a point-blank poke save on a charging Crimson player to open the second half - in the loss.
Boston College will next see action on Saturday, Oct. 21, when the Eagles play their final home game of the 2000 season. The team will face BIG EAST foe Villanova at 1 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
