Boston College junior forward Kim Mackie (Peterborough, Ontario) will miss the 2000-2001 women's basketball season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus tear in her right knee on Thursday, Oct. 5. She will undergo reconstructive surgery within the next few weeks.
Last season, Mackie played in 33 games and made 12 starts at forward where she averaged 5.0 point per game and 4.5 rebounds per game. She scored a career-high 17 points and added a career-high 11 rebounds against Kent State on Dec. 4, 1999, for her first-career double-double. She was also selected to try out for the 2000 Canadian Olympic basketball team.
The Boston College women's basketball team went 26-9 in 1999-2000 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
"We are very disappointed for Kim," head coach Cathy Inglese said. "She showed great improvement last season and played an important role for us after Becky Gottstein was injured. We were very excited about Kim this season. With her size, athleticism and increasing experience, she showed potential to be one of our best defenders up front. The most important thing for Kim right now is to focus on her recovery and rehabilitation. We look forward to having her back with us when we travel to Europe in August."
