Field Hockey Falls to UConn, 2-1, in Double Overtime

Amy Herz's crossing-shot goal 5:48 into double-overtime lifted eighth-ranked Connecticut over 13th-ranked Boston College, 2-1, at Alumni Stadium. The Huskies controlled played throughout most of the game and held the Eagles scoreless during both overtime sessions, while out-shooting them 29-5 through the whole game.
Junior Amelie Wulff got the Eagles on the board first with a goal off a penalty corner with 8:20 remaining in the first half. Senior co-captain Jen Hall stopped the push and got the assist. The goal gave BC a 1-0 lead and was Wulff's eighth of the season.
The two teams played scoreless until freshman Amy Marland netted Connecticut's equalizer amid a scrum in front of the net while Eagle keeper Jill Dedman was down. Marland took Herz's pass and buried it over the sprawling Dedman.
Connecticut dominated the overtime periods, allowing the Eagles no further than midfield on their rushes. The Huskies put six shots up during the two periods, while BC was held without a shot.
Connecticut keeper Alana Unick made three saves in the win, while Dedman made a season-high 19 in the loss.
Boston College falls to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the BIG EAST with the loss, while the Huskies improve to 11-4 overall and 3-0 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles will next face Holy Cross on Sunday, Oct. 15, in Worcester at 2 p.m.
