Men's Track Takes Second at Husky Open

Junior Jonathan Ordway won two events in his first track meet since his freshman year to help lead the Boston College men's track team to a second-place finish at the 2000 Husky Invitational hosted by Northeastern University on Friday, January 28 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. The Eagles won two other events and secured 10 more top-six finishes in the second-place team effort.
Ordway won the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.46 seconds, one one-hundredth of a second faster than the second place finisher, Ketric Barnes of the University of New Haven. He also took the 200-meter race in 22.29 seconds, four-tenths of a second faster than the next competitor.
Freshman Brian Mahoney won his first collegiate meet, taking the mile run in 4:26. Sophomore Mike McKenzie earned a second-place finish with his run of 4:27. In the 5,000-meter race, sophomore Colin Wolfe took the victory with a 15:22 run, six seconds faster than the second place runner.
Junior Jeff Carmen had a fifth place showing in the 400-meters with a time of 51.11. Classmate Jeff Normant took second in the 500-meter dash, running a 1:05. Freshman Vernon Mickle copped third-place honors in the 800-meters, running a 1:58.02 and sophomore Mike Krashes took sixth place with a 1:58.83.
Junior Dan Fitzgerald ran to a third-place finish in the 1,000-meters in 2:29.4. In the 55-meter hurdles, senior Matt Ramsey took fifth place with a 8.03.
In the field events, senior co-captain earned a third-place showing in the high jump. The two-time BIG EAST Champion cleared 6'8". In the shot put, sophomore Tony Bierne took sixth with a toss of 46'00.5".
Several members of the men's track team also competed at the Terrier Classic over the weekend. The team will next compete at the Harvard Open in Cambridge on February 5 at 12 p.m.
