CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Only a handful of college freshman score a goal in their first field hockey game. Even fewer receive league recognition just two games into their careers.
For Boston College freshman forward Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) both improbabilities became realities. Forty-eight hours after scoring her initial college goal, French was honored by the BIG EAST Conference as its Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 5.
An accomplished high school performer at Notre Dame Academy, French came to the Heights looking to somehow contribute to the Eagles' offensive attack. She made her presence felt in the opening round of the 1999 Boston College Field Hockey Tournament as she came off the bench to score her team's third goal in an eventual 7-0 victory over Vermont.
Now a spotless 2-0 on the young season, Boston College will take to the road to battle in-state rival UMass-Amherst on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. The Eagles will then return home for a 7:30 p.m. contest against Patriot League opponent Holy Cross at Alumni Stadium on Sept. 10.
