Field Hockey Snuffs Vermont In Opener, 7-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College field hockey team took care of visiting Vermont 7-0 in opening round action of the 1999 Boston College Field Hockey Tournament played at Alumni Stadium. The game was the season opener for both teams.
The Eagles (1-0), who received either a goal or assist from 10 different players, broke into the scoring column in the games 21st minute on a penalty stroke from senior Amelie Wulff (Dusseldorf, Germany). The Eagles struck for two more goals, less than three minutes apart to stake themselves to a 3-0 lead heading into halftime. Kellie Misiaszek (Greenland, NH) who would score in the second half, tallied with a little less than six minutes remaining in the first half. Freshman Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) put home her initial collegiate goal less than three minutes later.
Boston College, which outshot Vermont 20-0, scored four more times in the second half as junior Jennifer Hall (Brewster, NY), Misiaszek, junior Gina Dinan (Wolfesboro, NH) and freshman Christy Zider (Barre, VT) all tallied.
Senior goalkeeper Jill Dedman (Amity, Conn.) faced no Catamount shots on her way to her first shutout of the season and second of her career.
The Eagles will return to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they'll face the winner of tonight's LaSalle-Radford game in the championship game of the Boston College Field Hockey Tournament.
