BC Posts Second-Consecutive Shutout, 3-0 Over Miami

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - - Morgan Page (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) notched her seventh and eighth goals of the season, and Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) recorded her second consecutive shutout as Boston College (6-2) defeated BIG EAST foe Miami 3-0 Sunday in Newton. The Eagles are 1-0 in the BIG EAST's Northeast division while the Hurricanes (6-3), after downing Providence Friday 2-0, drop to 1-1 in the loop.
Schaeffer tied a season-high nine saves to post her fourth shutout this season, augmenting her three-year career total to 20 blankings. She has a season goals against average of 0.860 while maintaining a 0.981 career GAA. In the 66th and 85th minutes, Schaeffer staved off a couple of one-on-one opportunities with the Hurricane's leading scorer Allison McWhinney (seven goals, four assists) to protect the shutout.
BC sophomore forward Morgan Page gathered the rebound from teammate Meghan Moore's (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) shot off the crossbar to open the game's scoring in the 15th minute. Moore's corner kick with three minutes to go in the half set up Mary Guarino's (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) header in the near post for the second goal. Guarino, ranked 19th nationally in points scored, raised her goal total to seven with four assists to date.
Boston College's third score originated in the middle third where Sarah Powell (Natick, Mass./Natick) sent a longball cross field to Colleen Danaher (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) in the left wing. Danaher quickly passed to Page who found the back of an empty net catching Miami goalkeeper Elizabeth Swinson in a misdirection.
Swinson made 13 saves in the losing effort, aided by a team defensive save in the 68th minute. BC attackers rifled 19 shots to Miami's six in the first 45 minutes en route to a 33-shot day.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday (Sept. 29), hosting Connecticut. Game time is at 3 p.m.
