CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Magadelena Aguilar (Buenos Aires, Argentina) posted the game's lone score to lift the American University Eagles (4-5) over host Boston College (4-5) Saturday in Chestnut Hill.
With 14:04 remaining in the first half, Aguilar gathered her own rebound off a BC defender 10 yards out then capitalized on an one-on-one opportunity with BC goalkeeper Jill Dedman (Orange, Conn./Amity Regional) for the game-winner. Aguilar accumulated nine shots on the day.
Dedman collected 12 saves in the defeat, highlighted by eight in the second half as American rifled 11 shots to BC's two. American's Lauren McDonnell accumulated eight saves between the posts for the shutout.
BC's Christy Zider (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) and Elizabeth Flood (Danvers, Mass./Danvers) led the Eagles with three shots each.
Within the game's first 17 minutes, Dedman made two key stops including one isolation situation and another sprawling turnaway with 18 minutes to go. Her tough defensive play continued early into the second half when she stuffed two shots in a double-save series at 31 minutes. American kept the pressure on with two corners in the space of two minutes, at the 26-minute mark.
Boston College travels to Providence Wednesday (Sept. 29) for its first BIG EAST contest of the year. Game time is at 4 p.m.
