CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Richmond University, ranked 20th nationally (NSCAA), ended Boston College's three-game win streak with a 4-2 win Sunday in the second round of the JMU/Sheraton Four Points Hotel Invitational in Harrisonburg, Va. The Eagles, ranked 23rd in the same poll, are now 2-2 against teams listed among the nation's top 25.
The Spiders jumped out to a 2-0 halftime advantage and added an early second half score to hold a commanding 3-0 lead through the 51st minute. Twenty seconds later, Mary Guarino (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead to two. BC then decreased the deficit to one on Morgan Page's (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) tally, fed by Rachael Klemanski (Farmington, Conn./Farmington), in the 79th minute.
Page and Guarino have totaled six goals each for the Eagles this season.
Richmond put the game out of reach, however, when Jenna Merriam scored in the 82nd minute.
The Spiders outshot BC 10-6 as Richmond goalkeeper Kristen Samuhel collected four saves.
BC will host Northeastern Wednesday (Sept. 22). Game time is at 3 p.m.
