CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Morgan Page (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) and Mary Guarino (Plantation, Fla./St.Thomas Aquinas) combined for two goals and two assists to lift Boston College 2-1 over 10th-ranked Dartmouth Sunday in Hanover, N.H. BC raised its record to 2-1 after suffering its only loss, a 1-0 overtime decision, to the country's eighth-ranked squad, University of Hartford, Sept. 5.
Dartmouth entered the 1999 season ranked 10th in the Soccer America poll and 17th in the College Soccer Coaches Association of America list (CSCAA) after advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals last year.
BC's victory at Chase Field broke a nine-game home winning streak at Dartmouth that dated back to Nov. 2, 1997. The Big Green was 9-0 at home a season ago.
Boston College sophomore forward Morgan Page netted a feed from Mary Guarino in the fourth minute to open up the game's scoring. Page returned the favor at the 9:49 mark by dishing out an assist to Guarino inside the box to put the Eagles up 2-0. Those two Eagles have accounted for all of BC's goals (4) to date.
The Big Green mounted a comeback in the second half as freshman Mary McVeigh crossed a ball just out of reach of BC goalkeeper, Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman), to Jen Murray, who easily placed it into the net.
Schaeffer gathered in three saves against Dartmouth and has allowed only two goals in 282 minutes equating to a 0.638 goals against average.
Dartmouth failed on an equalizer with 18 seconds left when Gretchen Bell's direct kick from 25 yards out sailed over the net.
Boston College hosts its first home game at the Newton Campus Soccer Field against Central Connecticut State University Wednesday at 3 p.m.
at Hanover, N.H.
