CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Boston College women's basketball 1999-2000 schedule will feature 27 regular season games, including 16 BIG EAST Conference contests. Boston College will play in the 1999 Preseason National Invitational Tournament which starts on November 15 at the campus sites of participating schools. The Eagles open the season at the University of Maine in the first round of the single-elimination tournament. The 16-team field features two of the 1999 NCAA Women's Final Four participants (Duke and Georgia). In addition to Boston College, six teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament (UC Santa Barbara, Illinois, Liberty, Maine, St. Mary's, and Virginia Tech) will also participate in the pre-season event.
The Eagles will play six non-conference opponents at home in Silvio O. Conte Forum. Boston College opens at home against Davidson on November 19, and will also host Kent State, Dartmouth, Northwestern, and La Salle in December. The Eagles will host the annual contest against Holy Cross on January 3 in the final non-conference game of the regular season. In addition to the regular season home games, Boston College will host the Australian Institute of Sport in an exhibition game on November 6.
Boston College will play 12 away games, including Arkansas and eight BIG EAST road games. For the second consecutive season the Eagles will play Massachusetts. The Eagles will compete in the University of Florida Tournament on December 28-29 in Gainesville, FL. Boston College will play Maine in the first round of the tournament that also features Western Kentucky and host Florida.
In conference action, the Eagles are scheduled to play four league opponents home and away. The Eagles will play Pittsburgh, Providence, Syracuse, and Villanova two times during the season. Boston College will play one home game against Georgetown, St. John's, Seton Hall, and West Virginia. The Eagles will play one away game at Connecticut, Miami, Notre Dame, and Rutgers.
"Our non-conference schedule will present a challenge for us, starting with the game at Maine in the PreSeason WNIT," said Boston College head coach Cathy Inglese. "The addition of a number of new teams on the schedule, and the tournament field at the University of Florida, will really be a strong test for us. I think that the conference is going to be even stronger this season and the top three teams from a year ago are going to be even better."
