CHESNTUT HILL, MA - No. 25 Boston College won its seventh straight game, the best winning streak in school history, with a 75-66 win over Georgetown. Four players scored in double figures for the Eagles (13-1 overall, 5-1 in the BIG EAST), led by freshman Becky Gottstein (Albany, NY) , with 14 points. Gottstein added 11 rebounds, recording her fourth double-double of the season, the third in the past four games. The Hoyas (8-6, 2-4) were led by sophomore Katie Smrcka-Duffys 28 points and Melba Chambers 12 points.
Sophomore Jamie Cournoyer (North Attleboro, MA) scored a season-high 10 points, all in the second half, to help Boston College overcome a second half deficit. The Eagles trailed the Hoyas 44-42 with 13:10 left in the game when the 6-3 center hit a lay-up to tie the game. Nearly four minutes later, with the Eagles only up by four, Cournoyer made two straight baskets, widening the Eagles lead to 54-66.
Junior guard Alissa Murphy (San Diego, CA) added 13 points while freshman Nicole Conway (Glenmont, NY) , in her second consecutive start, tallied career highs in points (10 points) and rebounds (nine rebounds), for the Eagles, who began the game with a 12-0 run. Georgetown then went on its own run, outscoring Boston College 23-8 while cutting the lead to three with 9:34 left in the first half. The Eagles upped their lead back to 10, but the Hoyas fought back, trailing only 33-30 at halftime.
Georgetown took its first lead of the game on a lay-up by Chambers with 16:30 left in the game. The two teams then fought for the lead over the next four minutes, before a jump shot by junior Cal Bouchard (Aurora, Ontario) gave the Eagles the lead for good at 46-44 with 12:17 left in the game. Bouchard missed the final 10 minutes of the game, as she went out at the 9:58 mark in the second half with an injury to her left knee. She was being evaluated by team doctors after the game.
Boston College remained perfect (7-0) at home this season. The Eagles now hit the road, when they face Syracuse on January 13 in a 7:00 p.m. game.
