Women's Tennis Defeats Syracuse

CHESTNUT HILL - Sophomore Cynthia Tow won a three-set match at first singles and teamed with junior Barbara Privrel to gain a victory at first doubles to lead Boston College to a 5-3 home victory over BIG EAST rival Syracuse.
Tow defeated SU junior Shareen Lai, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
The Eagles also gained singles wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions. At second singles, Privrel defeated Miki Kanemitsu. At third singles, sophomore Kiren Fernando downed Anna Khvalina.
In doubles action, Tow and Privrel defeated Lai and Khvalina in a match that was retired because of injury. Fernando and junior Mercedes del Valle gained an 8-4 victory over Syracuses Michelle Neveklovska and Kanemitsu.
Boston College returns to action at the BIG EAST Tennis Championship in Miami, Fla. The Eagles, seeded third in the 13-team field, drew a bye through the first round of play, and will face the Seton Hall-Pittsburgh winner on Friday, April 23.
