Game 1 - # 5 UConn 1 September 2, 1998 -
Bowditch Field
Boston College 0
(0-1, 0-1) UConn senior Margaret Tietjen scored the game's lone goal at
8:31 to lead the Huskies to a 1-0 victory in the season-opener for both
teams. Courtney Schaeffer made seven saves for the Eagles.
Game 2 - Arizona State 0 September 7, 1998 -
Bowditch Field
Boston College 3
(1-1, 0-1) After a scoreless first half, the Eagles got their first goal
of the season when freshman Morgan Page broke free behind the defense
and powered the ball into the net. Page tallied the next two goals to
record her first hat trick in her second collegiate game. Schaeffer
made five saves to record her first shutout of the year.
Game 3 - #22 James Madison 3 September 11, 1998 - Natick
High School
Boston College 2
(1-2, 0-1) The Eagles lost a heartbreaker when JMU's Aimee Grahe scored
the game-winning goal with 59 seconds remaining. The Eagles led 1-0 and
2-1 but could not hold the lead as the Dukes scored two goals in the
final seven minutes. Morgan Page scored her fourth goal in two games
and Mary Guarino tallied her first goal of the season. Guarino also
assisted on Page's goal.
Game 4 - Seton Hall 0 (OT) September 13, 1998 - Bowditch

Boston College 0
(1-2-1, 0-1-1) Courtney Schaeffer made the play of the game when she
stoned a Seton Hall player from three yards with just 50 seconds
remaining. Schaeffer made three saves to record her second shutout of
the season, ninth of her career. The Eagles possessed the ball most of
the game and outshot the Pirates 25-12.
Game 5 - Boston College 4 (OT) September 16, 1998 - New Britain,
Conn.
Central Conn. 3
(2-2-1, 0-1-1) Freshman Morgan Page scored two goals, including the
gamewinner in overtime, to lead the Eagles to victory in their first
road contest of the season. It was Page's fifth and sixth tallies of
1998. Junior Janice Collein gave BC a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute but
Central Connecticut evened the score 11 minutes later. The game
remained tied until the Lady Blue Devil's Jane McFarlane gave her team a
2-1 advantage.. Page netted her first goal five minutes later to tie
the game. Junior Mary Guarino put the Eagles back in front with a
penalty kick at 61:11. Central Connecticut tied the match at 3-3 and
sent the game into overtime. Two minutes into the extra frame, Page won
the game.
Game 6 - Syracuse 0 September 18, 1998 -
Shea Field
Boston College 1
(3-2-1, 1-1-1) BC evened its BIG EAST record with a 1-0 victory over
Syracuse. Junior Mary Guarino tallied her third goal of the season on a
header that sailed over the Orangewomen's goalkeeper in the third
minute. Guarnio's header came off a perfect cross from senior Kiera
McKeon. Courtney Schaeffer made two saves to record her second
consecutive BIG EAST shutout, her third shutout of the season.
Game 7 - St. John's 0 September 20, 1998 - Natick High
School
Boston College 3
(4-2-1, 2-1-1) The Eagles increased their winning streak to three games
with a 3-0 victory over winless St. John's. Sophomore Sarah Powell,
playing on her high school field, began the scoring at 13:37 by heading
in a cross from Meghan Moore. Junior Mary Guarino gave BC a two-goal
advantage at 33:03. It was Guarino's third goal in the last three games,
fourth in the last five contests. Morgan Page added an unassisted goal
with less than five minutes remaining. BC outshot the Red Storm, 23-9.
Courtney Schaeffer made five saves for her third consecutive BIG EAST
shutout.
Game 8 - Boston College 0 September 24, 1998 - Boston,
Mass.
#24 Harvard 2
(4-3-1, 2-1-1) Cross-town foe Harvard snapped BC's three-game winning
streak with a 2-0 victory. Harvard's Naomi Miller and Gina Foster each
tallied goals for the Crimson. Courtney Schaeffer made nine saves
against the potent Harvard offense.
Game 9 - Boston College 4 September 27, 1998 - Providence, R.I.
Providence 0
(5-3-1, 3-1-1) Freshman Morgan Page tallied the first two Eagle goals en
route to a seven point performance. She added an assist on BC's third
goal, scored by junior Mary Guarino. Junior Kristine Klagges capped the
game's scoring in the 77th minute to finalize the score, 4-0. The
Eagles outshot the Friars, 25-7. Courtney Schaeffer made five saves.
It was her fourth consecutive BIG EAST shutout and the fifth shutout of
the season. Schaeffer had not allowed a goal in a BIG EAST match in 481
minutes.
Game 10 - Northeastern 0 September 29, 1998 - Bowditch

Boston College 6
(6-3-1, 3-1-1) For the second time in a week the Eagles faced an
out-of-conference, city-rival. BC routed Northeastern 6-0, outshooting
the Huskies 21-5. Freshman Morgan Page notched her second collegiate
hat trick and added an assist on Meghan Moore's game-winning tally.
Junior Kristine Klagges and sophomore Gravity Goldberg also tallied
goals. Courtney Schaeffer made two saves.
Game 11 - Boston College 1 October 2, 1998 - Pittsburgh, Penn.
Pittsburgh 0
(7-3-1, 4-1-1) BC won its fourth consecutive BIG EAST game on a Meghan
Moore goal with 23 seconds remaining in regulation. Moore's second goal
of the season came off an assist from junior Janice Collein. The Eagles
registered 14 shots to the Panthers 6. Courtney Schaeffer was only
forced to make one save in her fifth consecutive BIG EAST shutout.
Game 12 - Boston College 0 (OT)October 4, 1998 - Morgantown, W.V.(7-3-2, 4-1-2) The Eagles outshot the Mountaineers 27-18 but could not penetrate the goal in 120 minutes of BIG EAST action. Courtney Schaeffer made eight saves to preserve her sixth consecutive BIG EAST shutout, her third shutout of the week. After this game, she had not allowed a conference goal in 681 minutes. It was the second scoreless tie of the season for BC (Seton Hall).West Virginia 0
Game 13 - #2 Notre Dame 3 October 9, 1998 - Natick High School
Boston College 1
(7-4-2, 4-2-2) BC scored on every shot it took...unfortunately they
managed only one shot against second-ranked Notre Dame. After a
scoreless first half, Notre Dame's Monica Geraldo took command of the
game. She scored the game's first goal in the 54th minute and gave the
Irish a 2-0 lead 12 minutes later. Meghan Moore brought the Eagles
within one goal in the 86th minute. Notre Dame's Jenny Streifer ended
any hope of a BC comeback with her goal 62 seconds later. Courtney
Schaeffer made 12 saves.
Game 14 -Loyola (Chi.) 1 October 10, 1998 - Natick High
School
Boston College 4
(8-4-2, 4-2-2) BC resumed its winning ways with a 4-1 victory over
Loyola (Chi.). Junior Mary Guarino tallied one goal and two assists and
classmate Janice Collein added two assists. The Eagles led 3-0 at
halftime and stretched their lead to four goals when senior Megan Burns
scored her first goal of the season. Brandy Manza and Rachael Klemanski
also scored for BC. Courtney Schaeffer made two saves in her 59 minutes
in goal. Senior Alice Lehne saw her first action of the season, making
four saves in 31 minutes.
Game 15 - Boston College 1 October 16, 1998 - Villanova,
Penn.
Villanova 2
(8-5-2, 4-3-2) Villanova's Sarah Rowland scored two goals to lead the
Pirates over Boston College, 2-1. Freshman Morgan Page tallied her 13th
goal of the season to tie the game with 10 minutes remaining, but
Rowland struck for her second goal in the 89th minute. Courtney
Schaeffer made 7 saves.
Game 16 - Boston College 1 October 18, 1998 - Piscataway,
N.J.
Rutgers 1
(8-5-3, 4-3-3) BC took a 1-0 advantage in the 60th minute with freshman
Meghan Moore's fourth career goal but could not hold the lead. Rutgers'
Shannon Gleason scored 10 minutes later to knot the game at 1-1, where
it would finish. The Eagles fired five shots in the overtime sessions
but could not muster the final goal. Courtney Schaeffer made four saves
for BC.
Game 17 - New Hampshire 2 October 21, 1998 - Bowditch
Field
Boston College 3
(9-5-3, 4-3-3) Sophomore Jillian Livolsi thwarted a New Hampshire
comeback with her goal at 66:50 to give the Eagles a 3-2 victory over
New Hampshire. BC dominated the early part of the game, outshooting the
Widlcats 8-2 in the first half. Two of those shots found the back of
the net. Freshman Morgan Page put BC ahead with her 14th goal of the
season in the eighth minute. Junior Brandy Manza increased the lead to
2-0 with her tally at 31:38. Sophomore Rachael Klemanski notched two
assists, including one on Livolsi's gamewinner.
Game 18 - Boston College 3 October 25, 1998 - Washington,
D.C.
Georgetown 0
(10-5-3, 5-3-3) Junior Brandy Manza tallied two second-half goals to
lead the Eagles to a 3-0 victory in their final BIG EAST match of the
season. Sophomore Katie Murphy began the scoring with her first career
goal off an assist from Mary Guarino. Guarino also assisted on Manza's
first goal. Sophomore Courtney Schaeffer made six saves to record her
ninth shutout of the season, the seventh in 11 BIG EAST matches.
Game 19 - Boston College 3 (OT) October 28, 1998 - Providence,
R.I.
Brown 2
(11-5-3, 5-3-3) The Eagles traveled to Providence to battle Brown
University in their final regular season game. Brown's Emily Dreblow
gave the Bears an early lead when she converted a penalty kick
opportunity at the 9:34 mark. The Eagles fell behind 2-0 before
sophomore Sarah Powell scored BC's first goal two minutes after
halftime. Junior Janice Collein netted the equalizer with less than 10
minutes to play in regulation. The Eagles struck again 12 minutes into
overtime when freshman Morgan Page ended the game with her blast from 12
yards. Courntey Schaeffer made four saves in her 11th victory of the
fall. BC outshot Brown, 24-13.
Game 20 - Boston College 2 November 3, 1998 - South Orange, N.J.
Seton Hall 1 BIG EAST Tournament Quarterfinal
(12-5-3, 5-3-3) BC returned to the BIG EAST Tournament for the first
time since 1994. The Eagles were the #5 seed and traveled to South
Orange, N.J. to face the #4 seed Seton Hall. The Pirates took an early
lead when Kelly Smith netted her 23rd goal of the season at the 8:01
mark. Seton Hall held on to a 1-0 lead until the the 70 minute mark
when Mary Guarino scored off a Morgan Page assist. Page continued her
strong play with a blast from 18 yards out to give BC a 2-1 lead.
Courtney Schaeffer made seven saves and the defense held on to seal the
win.
Game 21 - Connecticut 2 November 6, 1998 - Storrs, Conn.
Boston College 0 BIG EAST Tournament Semifinal
(12-6-3, 5-3-3) UConn's Jana Carabino came off the bench to score two
second-half goals that led to a 2-0 win over BC in the BIG EAST
Tournament's semifinal-round. The Eagles and the Huskies were scoreless
for 75 minutes before Carabino's header found its way past BC goalkeeper
Courtney Schaeffer. Three minutes later, Carabino tallied the insurance
goal to finish the Eagles. Schaeffer finished the game with five saves.
