Boston College sophomore Sarah Powell (Natick, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal at 13:37 to lead the Eagles over BIG EAST rival St. Johns, 3-0, at Natick High School.
Powell, playing on her high school field, headed a cross from freshman Meghan Moore (Santa Barbara, Calif.) to begin the scoring. Junior Mary Guarino (Plantation, Fla.) added an insurance goal in the 34th minute off an assist from sophomore Katie Murphy (South Windsor, Conn.). It was Guarinos third goal in the last three games, fourth in the last five contests.
Freshman Morgan Page (Westerly, R.I.) capped the games scoring in the 86th minute when she blasted a shot to the right of St. Johns goalkeeper Jen Frankel.
Sophomore Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y.) made five saves to record her second consecutive shutout, fourth shutout of the season. The Red Storms Evie Ksenopoulos made four saves and Frankel made three saves in her 36 minutes of work.
Boston Colleges three-game winning streak moves its record to 4-2-1, 2-1-1 in the BIG EAST. With the loss, St. Johns falls to 0-7, 0-5 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, September 22 at 3 p.m. when they travel to Harvard.
