Women's Hoops Falls to No. 12 Rutgers

BOSTON - Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 18 points and Rutgers' defense, the second-best in the nation, held No. 20 Boston College to 31.5 percent shooting as the 12th-ranked Scarlet Knights won 71-52 Saturday.
Tomora Young fished with 16 points, 14 in the first 8 1/2 minutes. Tasha Pointer had 11 points for the Scarlet Knights (20-4, 12-1 Big East), who have won nine of 10.
Becky Gottstein scored 12 points and Whitney Steele 11 for the Eagles (17-5, 9-5) with 12 points. Boston College, which lost its second straight, scored its fewest points this season.
Rutgers opened by making its first four shots, including three 3-pointers by Young in a 68-second span, to pull to an 11-0 lead 2:14 in.
After the Eagles closed to 17-11 on Alissa Murphy's three free throws, the Skarlet Knights went on a 17-5 spurt in the next nine minutes.

After the Scarlet Knights went ahead 51-30 with 12 1/2 minutes left, Boston College never got within 20 until the game's last basket.
