CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. (AP) - After a nine-day layoff, No. 7 Notre Dame returns to Big East action Wednesday when it takes on Boston College in the third game of a four-game road trip.
Since being beaten by No. 1 Connecticut on Dec. 8, the Irish have rebounded with three straight wins. Its last victory was a 75-64 decision over Michigan State on Dec. 21.
With four starters finishing in double figures, Notre Dame (9-1, 1-1) took control of the game with a 15-0 run midway through the first half.
"I was really pleased with how we got off to a big lead early in the game, then we didn't play with as much intensity," said coach Muffet McGraw.
The Irish dominated the Spartans on the boards, holding a 52-27 rebounding advantage.
Ruth Riley scored a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds, posting her fifth double-double of the season. The performance vaulted her to co-Player of the Week honors in the Big East along with Shawnetta Stewart of Rutgers.
The win gave Notre Dame its best record after 10 games in school history.
Boston College (9-1, 1-1) is also riding a three-game winning streak. The Eagles are coming off an 85-56 victory over San Diego State on Dec. 21.
With senior Paula Bacso out with a foot injury, Becky Gottstein stepped into the starting lineup for the second straight game. The freshman finished with 13 points and eight rebounds in the rout.
Wednesday's game will be the sixth meeting between the two teams. Notre Dame leads the series 3-2.
