CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- Junior Alissa Murphy (San Diego, CA) scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Boston College to a 99-68 win over Lithuanian Select team. It was the Eagles' first win in two exhibition games.
Boston College led from the outset, taking a commanding 33-8 lead with 10 minutes left in the first half. The visitors were never able to get the lead under 20, as the Eagles led 52-29 at halftime. During the first half, the Eagles held their opponent to 24 percent shooting from the floor. Sophomore center Jamie Cournoyer (North Attleboro, MA) led the Eagles in scoring early in the game, netting 13 first-half points.
In the second half, Boston College continued their dominance, opening with a 14-5 run to raise its lead to 68-34. The lead never fell below 30 points for the remainder of the game, as the Eagles shot better than 60 percent from the field in the second half.
Freshman Brianne Stepherson (Middleton, MA) had a strong effort in her second start of the season at point guard. Stepherson scored 15 points and dished out eight assists. Her classmate, Becky Gottstein (Albany, NY) finsihed the game with 12 points, while sophomore Danielle O'Banion (Arlington, VA) cracked the double-digit mark with 10 points.
Boston College opens its 1998-99 regular season schedule this Monday, November 16 with a 7 p.m. home game against the University of Massachusetts.
