Women's Basketball Stuffs Hawks 72-68

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - Four different players scored in double figures for the Boston College womens basketball team as the Eagles defeated St. Josephs 72-68 Sunday afternoon. The win improved the Eagles overall record to a perfect 6-0, the best start in school history.
Junior Alissa Murphy (San Diego, CA) led Boston College in scoring with 16 points. The starting backcourt of freshman Brianne Stepherson (Middleton, MA) and junior co-captain Cal Bouchard (Aurora, Ontario) totaled 26 points, with each player scoring 13. Senior co-captain Paula Bacso (Farmingdale, NY) finished the game with 10 points.
For the second consecutive game, the Eagles overcame a deficit. The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first half, with the Hawks biggest lead being 31-23 with 5:08 left in the first half. Boston College went on an 8-0 run, tying the game on a Murphy jump shot. The Eagles entered the locker room at halftime with a 39-36 advantage.
In the second half, the Boston College increased its lead to as many as seven points twice. The first time, the Hawks clawed their way back with an 8-0 run and overtook the lead with 7:46 left in the game. Boston College then went on its own run, outscoring St. Josephs 9-0 to take a 64-58 lead with 4:37 left in the game. St. Josephs got as close as 66-64, but was never able to regain the lead.
Senior Jana Lichnerova led the Hawks with 19 points, while freshman guard Susan Moran added 18 points in the loss.
Boston College now hits the road for four games, starting with the BIG EAST opener against Miami on December 5. The next home game is December 30 against Notre Dame.
