June 21, 1999 | Women's Basketball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Two Boston College women's basketball players earned All-BIG EAST Conference honors for the 1997-98 season. Cal Bouchard was named to the All-BIG EAST First-Team and Whitney Steele was selected to the All-BIG EAST Third-Team by a vote of the league's head coaches. A year ago, Bouchard earned All-BIG EAST Rookie Team honors.
Bouchard led the Eagles in scoring with an average of 16.5 points per game. The native of Aurora, Ontario, started all 28 games and earned BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week honors twice during the 1997-98 season (November 24, January 19). A pre-season All-BIG EAST Second-Team selection, she earned All-Tournament honors at the Comfort Inn Downtown Classic and Corestates Hawk Classic. Bouchard scored a career-high 32 points in the victory over Texas at the Reebok Classic and hit a driving layup with five seconds remaining in regulation to give the Eagles a 78-76 win over Notre Dame on January 17.
Steele led Boston College in rebounding (5.9 rpg) and was second on the team in scoring (14.5 ppg). The junior center started all 28 games and scored in double figures in 10 contests. She registered a double-double in the victory over Hartford on December 11, scoring 22 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Steele was named to the All-Tournament team at the Comfort Inn Downtown Classic.
