Women's Basketball Defeats Holy Cross

WORCESTER, MA -- Senior Whitney Steele (Harrington Park, NJ) scored 23 points and hauled down 17 rebounds to lead the Boston College womens basketball team to a 65-59 victory over Holy Cross. The Eagles improved their overall record to 2-0 as they captured their first road victory of the season.
The Eagles never trailed in the game, as senior Alissa Murphy (San Diego, CA) opened the game with a three-pointer. Murphy finished the game with 12 points. Boston College took their biggest lead of the first half at 28-16 with 3:14 left in the first period.
In the second half, Holy Cross scored six unanswered points, cutting a 10 point lead to 48-44 with 9:23 left in the second period. Another Murphy three-pointer pushed the lead back up to seven. Boston College eventually pushed the lead up to 11, leading 62-51 with 3:31 left in the game.
Freshman Brianne Stepherson (Topsfield, MA) had 14 points and added six asssists. Junior point guard Cal Bouchard (Auora, Ontario) sat out Wednesday nights game after hitting her head on Tuesdays practice. Bouchard will be ready to play on Sunday, when Boston College hosts the Reebok Womens Basketball Classic in the Fleet Center on November 22. In the opening game, Florida takes on George Washington at 1 p.m. with the Eagles facing Michigan State at 3 p.m.
