Softball Splits with Seton Hall

Chestnut Hill, Mass-Junior Mary Dietz(San Manuel, AZ) broke the BIG EAST record as well as the school record for most strikeouts in a game when she struck-out 17 versus Seton Hall in Boston Colleges 6-0 win on Sunday afternoon at Shea field.
Dietz pitched her second consecutive one-hit shutout in game one against the Pirates. She struck-out the side four times including the seventh inning to set the record. In her last five appearances the right-hander has pitched 26 scoreless innings, allowing seven hits with 44 strikeouts and only one walk. Her ERA is an outstanding 1.46 on the season.
The Eagles scored a run in the first and three in the second. In the bottom of the second junior Gretchen Thompson(Brea,CA) knocked in her fourth and fifth run of the season when she hit a bases loaded double to up the Eagles lead to 4-0.
The previous Boston College record for most strikeouts in game was 15 held by Dietz. Dietz has struk-out 15 batters four times in her career, most recently against Boston University on March 20th.
Terri Kobata of Notre Dame held the old BIG EAST record when she struck-out 16 Providence Friars on April 4, 1996.
