CHESTNUT HILL - With the team score tied 3-3, Boston College junior Brad Hughes earned a tough, three-set victory at fifth singles to lift the Eagles past visiting Providence College.
Hughes defeated Providence senior Clemente Tamariz, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4.
The Friars earned the first point of the day, winning two of the three doubles matches. BC gained its lone win at first doubles, with junior Anand Annigeri and senior Chris Amundsen teaming for an 8-4 victory over PC's Chris Wolken and John Moog.
In singles action, Annigeri lost just one game (6-0, 6-1) en route to a win over Wolken at first singles. BC also gained wins at fourth singles, where sophomore Chris Mercurio defeated Moog (6-2, 7-5); at fifth singles (Hughes' victory); and at sixth singles, where sophomore Matt Stutz downed senior John Poloski (6-2, 6-3).
