The Boston College mens tennis team defeated crosstown rival Boston University 4-2 in its first dual meet of the season.
Junior Nikolas Smith (Tucson, Ariz.) won his match at No. 3 in straight sets. He dropped only one game in a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Freshman Tim Brennan (Malden, Mass.) won a tough match at No. 5, 7-6, 7-5. Freshman Marc Lucero (San Diego, Calif.) also won in singles competition at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2.
The Eagles swept the doubles competition. Junior Anand Annigieri (Manchester, Conn.) and sophomore Jason Cowett (Del Mar, Calif.) won in the top spot, 8-4. Senior captain Chris Amundsen (Mercer Island, Wash.) teamed with Brennan for an 8-2 victory.
Smith and Lucero combined for an 8-5 doubles victory at No. 3.
BC returns to the courts on Wednesday, October 7 at 3 p.m. when it hosts New Hampshire.
