Chestnut Hill, MA--- The No. 10 Boston College field hockey team clinched at least a tie for the BIG EAST regular-season title by upsetting No. 2 Connecticut 2-0. Senior tri-captain Joy Ramsbotham (Melvin, NH) scored off a double-assit from Janis Cornwell (Wolfeboro, NH) and Anne Marie Ambros (Bridgeton, NJ) to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead with 24:06 left in the first half.
With 16:35 left in the first half, the game was halted due to lightning. The lightning caused a 35 minute delay, as both teams waited huddled under the bleachers to get back on to the field.
Once play resumed, neither team was able to put the ball into the net the rest of the first half, making the score 1-0 at halftime. The Eagles second goal came just 10 minutes into the second half, when junior .Julianne Marrone (Holden, MA) scored on a pass from senior tri-captain Gabrielle Beig (Haddonfield, NJ).
Junior Jill Dedman (Orange, CT) recorded her fourth shutout of the season by stopping eight Huskie shots.
The Eagles next face Stanford on Friday at Alumni Stadium at 7:30 pm. The Eagles final conference game is the final regular season game at Rutgers on October 31. If the Eagles win that game, they will win the regular season outright.
