Field Hockey Falls to Connecticut in NCAA Tournament

Storrs, CT--The University of Connecticut defeated Boston College, 3-0 in the second round of the NCAA Field Hockey Championship Sunday afternoon held at the University of Connecticut.
The Huskies(19-3) came out strong from the start keeping the ball in the BC end causing the Eagles to play defensive for most of the first half. UConn forced seven penalty corners in the first half. Nicole Castonguay scored the gamewinner with just more than 20 minutes left in the half to give Connecticut a 1-0 lead at the half.The Eagles could only muster three shots on goal in the first half and one in the second.
BC came out strong to start the second half, forcing the ball into Huskie territory, but still unable to put the ball behind UConn goalie Danielle Vile. BC had two penalty corners in the second half, but were unable to capatalize. Vile made four saves on the afternoon to record the shutout. It is the third time this season the two teams had met. BC defeated the Huskies at home, but were unable to beat them in the BIG EAST finals or the NCAA Championships.
Head coach Sherren Granese led the Eagles to the program's most wins since BC first fielded a field hockey team in 1974. The 16-6 record and the program's third appearance in the NCAA Tournament highlighted this year's effort. Senior Joy Ramsbotham (Melvin, NH) ended her career with an amazing 100 points (41G, 18A) in 81 career games.
