Field Hockey Advances to NCAA Tournament

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The No. 8 Boston College field hockey team earned an at-large berth in the 1998 NCAA Field Hockey Tournament for the third time in school history. The Eagles travel to Storrs, CT, where they will play the University of New Hampshire (14-6)on Saturday, November 14 at noon. The winner of that game will advance to the second round to face the University of Connecticut (18-3) on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m.
The No. 8 Eagles finished the regular season with a 15-5 record, the best record in school history. Boston College also captured their first regular season BIG EAST title, sharing the honor with Connecticut. Boston College won four conference honors. Senior tri-captain Joy Ramsbotham (Melvin, NH) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year,. senior tri-captain Anne Marie Ambros (Bridgeton, NJ) captured BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year honors while junior goalkeeper Jill Dedman (Orange, CT) won BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. Boston College head coach Sherren Granese won Coach of the Year honors.
The Eagles have faced both New Hampshire and Connecticut during the regular season. Boston College lost to New Hampshire 2-1 on Sept. 27 in Durham, NH. Boston College defeated Connecticut, then No. 2 in the nation, 2-0 on October 14 at Chestnut Hill. The Huskies gained revenge, knocking off the Eagles in the championship of the BIG EAST Tournament 2-1.
