Cross Country Fares Well at Boston Cross Country Festival

Senior Megan Gayman (Manchester, NH) placed third and sophomore Derek Smith (Duxbury, MA) placed ninth to lead the men's and women's cross country teams to a strong showing at the Boston Cross Country Festival held at Franklin Park. Smith's placing led the Eagles to a second place finish in the four team field. There were no team scores in the women's race. The event featured teams from both the college ranks and local track clubs.
Gayman finished in third place in the 5K to kick-off an impressive showing by the women's team. Six of the next eight runners crossing the line were from Boston College. Freshman Celeste Sedo (Ridgewood, NJ) followed Gayman in fourth place. Junior Amanda Mahoney (Lexington, MA) crossed in sixth place, while sophomore Lisa McIsaac (Edmonton, Alberta) and freshman Meredith Millet (Lafayette, NJ) followed in eighth and ninth places respectively.
The men's cross country teams finished just as well as the women, finishing in second place in the four-team meet. Smith was the first Eagle to cross the line in ninth place. He was followed by teammate sophomore Paul Abbruzzese (Hopedale, MA) in 10th place. Junior Mark Fonneman (Westerly, RI) crossed in 15th position while freshman Ryan Stanton (Danville, CA) finished 17th. Senior Joe O'Conner (Langhorne, PA) rounded out BC's top five finishers in the 21st position.
This weekend, both the men and women will travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational on September 26.
