Men's Track Falls To Harvard In Season-Opener

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior captain Ruben Marin won the high jump with a leap of 6'6.75" and junior Justin Burdon took first place in the 3000M and second in the mile to lead the Eagles in a loss to Harvard in the men's track team's opening meet of the season on Dec. 4 in Cambridge. Boston College also won the mile relay.
Marin, the 1999 BIG EAST indoor and outdoor high jump champions, bested Harvard's competitor by four inches in the win.
Burdon, a 1999 All-New England cross country selection, beat the next runner form Harvard by three and a half second in the 3000M.
In other track events, junior Jeff Normant took second in the 500M (1:05) and junior Dan Fitzgerald ran a 1:58 for second place in the 800M. Freshman Shawn Wallace ran the 1000M in 2:35 for second place in that event.
In field events, freshman Brad Chun took second-place honors in the pole vault with a leap of 13 feet.
Other scorers for the Eagles included: Gabe Verdaguer (third - long jump - 21'2.25"), Tony Beirne (third - 35 lb. weight - 48'7.25"), Erik DeMarco (third - 400M - 50.7), and Mike Krashes (third - 1000M - 2:36).
The Eagles will next return to action when they face the Harvard Crimson again on December 11 at 9:00 a.m. in Cambridge.
