Women's Swimming Falls To Connecticut, 184-116

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College dropped its first meet of the season, falling 184-116 to University of Connecticut Friday (Oct. 22) at the Flynn Recreation Complex in Chestnut Hill.
Lauren Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, N.J./The Peddie School) was chosen as the meet's Outstanding Performer while Nina Suryoutomo (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose) earned the Outstanding Performance award for her 53.28 effort in the 100-yard freestyle which was also the fastest unshaved time swum in BC's history.
Schwartz outswam the pack in the 200 butterfly (2:09.19) and 100 butterfly (59.93) and was second in the 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:13.96. Freshman Christa Ehlers (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) followed Schwartz in the latter events, earning third in the 100 fly (1:01.79) and 200 IM (2:16.50) in addition to a third in the 1000 freestyle (10:46.58).
Suryoutomo touched the wall first in the 50 free with a time of 24.81 in addition to her stellar 100 free gold medal effort.
Backstroker Brianne Sullivan (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) claimed first in the 100 back (1:00.54) while finishing second in the 200 race with a time of 2:11.51.
BC's diving duo of Kristen Gray (West Boylston, Mass./Doherty) and Shannon Lents (Boca Raton, Fla./Pope John Paul Regional) contributed heavily into the scoring. In the one-meter competition, Gray and Lents went two-three, gaining 239.25 and 237.98 points, respectively. Lents won the three-meter with 246.83 while Gray was second at 236.93.
Freshman Caitlin Klick (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) missed first place in the 200 free by .01, swimming 1:58.45. She also finished fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:21.94). Teammate Kara Glynn (Branford, Conn./Branford) was third in that race with a time of 5:20.38.
BC swims next at the University of Sherbrooke (Canada) Can-Am Challenge Nov. 5-6.
