BC Drops A Heartbreaker To UConn, 2-1, In OT

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - -University of Connecticut's Mary Frances Monroe scored two goals, including the gamewinner in sudden death overtime to defeat Boston College 2-1 Friday at the BIG EAST semifinals in Piscataway, N.J. That was the first ever semifinal overtime match played in the conference's history. UConn, ranked 13th according to NSCAA, advanced to the championships Sunday at 2 p.m. against. Notre Dame.
Monroe fired a shot into the upper left corner at the 5:11 mark to give the Huskies a 1-0 advantage. With just six minutes expired in the second half, the Eagles evened the score when Mary Guarino (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) scored on a breakaway. Monroe fired in the rebound off of Alexa Borisjuk's shot for the game-ending goal.
BC goalkeeper Alice Lehne (Troy, Mich./Seaholm) collected nine saves for the loss as the Huskies outshot BC 18-7. Maria Yatrakis made three saves in the win.
