Women's Soccer Advances To Sweet Sixteen

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College advances to the third round of the NCAA soccer championships for the first time in the program's history by virtue of a 1-0 shutout of the tournament's eighth seed, Harvard, Sunday (Nov. 14) at Ohiri Field.
The Eagles (16-6-1) meet Connecticut, ranked 12th nationally, Saturday Nov. 20. Game time is at 12 noon. BC lost two, one-goal decisions to the Huskies in 1999, including the most recent 2-1 overtime decision in the BIG EAST semifinals Nov. 5 in Piscataway, N.J. In NCAA tournament action, UConn defeated Dartmouth 3-0, the day before BC's game, after enjoying a bye in the first round.
With a Rachel Parri feed, Mary Guarino netted the game-winning goal (43:15) against Harvard to lead the Eagles, who advanced to the second round - for the program's third time - after defeating Fairfield 4-1 at the Newton Campus Soccer Field Nov. 10. Guarino scored two goals and assisted on another in that game. Meghan Moore notched a goal and two assists, and Colleen Danaher scored her first collegiate goal and added an assist against the Stags. Lindsey Marshall fed two goals while teammate Morgan Page dished another.
The winner of Saturday's game will play the winner of Santa Clara /UCLA on Nov. 26 or 27 at a site to be determined.
