PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Boston College swam to a 184-111 victory over Providence Tuesday (Nov. 9) en route to its second consecutive win to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Eagle athletes won 11 of 16 events, claiming the top-two spots in eight of those.
John Beierle (Rockford, Ill.) paced the field in both the 800-meter freestyle (9:24.85) and 200 individual medley (2:24.46). The freshman was followed by Fletcher Evans (Mercer Island, Wash.), whose time of 9:25.88 in the 800 meters was good enough for second while teammate James Pollack (Westfield, N.J.) earned second to Beierle in the 200 IM (2:27.05).
Eagle high flyers, junior Michael Wilt (Columbia, Conn.) and sophomore Stephen Hunter (Chester, N.Y.) finished one-two in both of the diving events for the Eagles.
Greg Dwyer (Rochelle Park, N.J.) won the 100 back (1:04.76) and clocked a 32.91 split in the last 50 meters to win the 400 freestyle event (4:28.95). Andrew O'Connor (Glendale, Calif.) and Brendan Wright (Weston, Mass.) finished one-two in the 200 butterfly as O'Connor swam 2:27.28, and Wright swam his last 50 in 38.18 to finish at 2:29.31.
Marc Manganiello (Norwich, Vt.) outswam the 200 breaststroke heat with his event-winning time of 2:39.90 while Russell MacTough (Chalfont, Penn.) , the closest finisher, concluded his race at 2:50.04.
Bob Foley (Scituate, Mass.) was second in the 200 freestyle (2:06.70) while Russell Keil's (Tiburon, Calif.) effort of 55.88 in the 100 free earned him a silver medal.
BC swims next at Yale Friday (Nov. 19). The meet time is 5 p.m.
