CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Balanced scoring, sound goaltending and spirited play lifted Boston College to a 3-0 victory over visiting Rhode Island Wednesday.
Eagle senior netminder Jill Dedman (Orange, Conn.) recorded her second shutout of the season, stopping 12 Rhode Island shots. The blanking was the eight of Dedman?s career.
The Eagles got on the board with a little less than nine minutes remaining on the half on Amy Suchanek?s (Portland, ME) first career goal. Suchanek took a pass from freshman Liz Flood (Danvers, Mass.) and put the ball past Rams goalkeeper Amanda Herlya.
Boston College scored twice in the second half with Nichole Bukowski (Windham, NH) and Christy Zider (Barre, VT) each tallying unassisted goals to create the final margin.
The Eagles were outshot by their Atlantic-10 Conference visitors 19-16 while taking four less penalty corners than Rhode Island.
Now an even 6-6-0 on the year, the injury-riddled Eagles will host Colgate in a game slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16.
