Field Hockey's Dedman named Goalkeeper of the Week

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College senior netminder Jill Dedman (Orange, Conn.) has been honored as the BIG EAST Conference?s goalkeeper of the week for the week ending Oct. 3, 1999. Dedman was honored for the first time this season after picking up the award a league-leading four times during the 1998 campaign.
Dedman, the reigning conference goalkeeper of the year, put together a solid week. On Wednesday, Sep. 29 she stopped 12 shots in the Eagles 1-0 hard-luck defeat to Providence.
Dedman proved up to the challenge Sunday as she denied BIG EAST Conference rival Syracuse 24 times in regulation and overtime. During the penalty-stroke phase of the game, Dedman stopped seven of the 10 shots that came her way from seven yards away to help seal the 3-2 overtime win.
On the season, Dedman has a 5-6-0 record with a 1.81 goals against average. She has recorded 132 saves, 44 more than any other conference netminder.
Dedman becomers the third Eagle to pick up a conference honor as both Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Liz Flood (Danvers, Mass.) have been recognized as rookies of the week.
Now 5-6-0 and 1-1-0 in BIG EAST play, the Eagles will face a pair of non-conference foes Rhode Island and Colgate this week.
