CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - In its most important and meaningful game to date Boston College needed 100 minutes and two rounds of penalty strokes to down a pesky Syracuse team 3-2.
The Eagles built a 2-0 halftime cushion on goals by Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Kellie Misiaszek (Greenland, N.H.) before Syracuse roared back with goals from Kelly Hambleton and Kristen Aronowicz.
After two 15 minute overtime periods, a winner couldn?t be decided and the game went to penalty strokes. Eagle goalkeeper Jill Dedman (Orange, Conn.) who recorded 10 saves during the contest, proved to be the difference as she put a stop to seven of the ten Orangewomen shots that came her way from seven yards away.
After both teams tallied twice in the first session of penalty strokes, Dedman rose to the challenge at hand, denying four of the five Syracuse players to shoot. Meanwhile, Gina Dinan (Portland, ME.) and Morgan Brady (New Milford, Conn.) put the ball past Syracuse netminder Audry Latsko to give Sherren Granese?s squad its first BIG EAST win.
Now 5-6 on the season and 1-1 in conference activity, the Eagles will play host to non-conference opponent Rhode Island Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
