Women's Cross Country Places fourth at BIG EASTs

BRONX, N.Y.- Three Boston College runners placed in the top 15 finishers to earn All-BIG EAST honors at the Conference?s annual Championships held at Van Cortland Park in Bronx, N.Y. on Oct. 29. As a team, the Eagles finished fourth behind national powerhouses Georgetown, Providence and Villanova.
Freshman Cate Guiney (Red Bank, N.J.) paced the Eagle contingent with her sixth-place finish. Her time of 17:42 was 22 seconds behind the winner, Carmen Douma of Villanova. Senior captain Shannon Smith (Fairport, N.Y.) crossed the line next in 10th place. She ran the 5K race in 17:56. Freshman Maggie Guiney (Red Bank, N.J.) was the third BC runner to score. She ran to a 13th-place finish in 18:00. All three runners were named to the All-BIG EAST squad.
The other Eagle scorers were sophomore Nicole Portley (San Mateo, Calif.) in 24th-place (18:35) followed by junior Lisa McIsaac (Edmonton, Alberta) in 25th place (18:36).
Other runners included: freshman Katie Ryan (49th- 19:14), senior Kyla Barbour (56th- 19:20), sophomore Sharon Van Tuyl (72nd- 19:48), freshman Meghan Andrade (74th- 19:49), sophomore Meghan Cunniff (77th- 19:58), freshman Mary Tomer (83rd- 20:05) and sophomore Meredith Millett (100th- 20:49).
The race included 126 competitors from all 13 BIG EAST members.
The Boston College women?s cross country team will return to action on Nov. 13 at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. when they compete in the NCAA District 1 Qualifier race. The top two teams to finish will automatically qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships held in Bloomington, Ind. on Nov. 23.
