CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The Boston College women's soccer squad won its third straight, clinching its second shutout in three games with a 4-0 victory over Rutgers University Friday night in Piscataway, N.J. BC improved to 11-5 while dropping the Scarlet Knights below .500 ( 8-9).
Sophomore Morgan Page (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) scored her 10th and 11th goals of the season. Freshman Katherine Halloran (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) had a goal and assist while Lindsey Marshall (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) notched the first goal of her collegiate career.
BC got on the board in the 28th minute as Page split two defenders for the unassisted tally. The Eagles made it a 2-0 advantage in the 40th minute as Marshall converted a give-and-go from Katherine Halloran.
The visitors took a 3-0 lead in the 67th minute as Page tallied her second goal of the game off an assist from Rachel Parri (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand), and then closed out the scoring in the 88th minute as Halloran scored an unassisted goal giving BC the 4-0 victory.
Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) made one save for her seventh complete shutout of the season and 23rd of her three-year career. BC also recorded one team save. Rutgers' freshman netminder Angel Hadeway (Sunrise, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) made two saves for the loss.
BC held the advantage in shots 12-8, while Rutgers had one more corner kick opportunity (5-4).
The Eagles play at St. John's University Sunday Oct. 24 in Jamaica, N.Y. Game time is at 2 p.m.
