CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team scored the game's first two goals and outshot host University of New Hampshire 15-4 en route to a 2-1 win Tuesday in Durham, N.H.
BC's first goal came when Meghan Moore (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) headed a pass from Debra D'Alessandro (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) just past the outstretched hands of UNH junior goalkeeper Stephanie Springer (Solana Beach, Calif.). Mary Guarino (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) added another tally - her 12th of the season - in the 66th minute, when she beat a defender up the middle and fired one past the diving Springer. Colleen Danaher (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) added an assist on the play.
The Eagles held off a late Wildcat surge after Kristin Cannistraro (West Newton, Mass.) cut the lead to 2-1 in the 79th minute, Nicole Coupland (Londonderry, N.H.) set up the goal when she charged the goalie knocking the ball loose. Angeline Alexakos (Bedford, N.H.) controlled the ball and served it to Cannistraro who headed it into the empty net.
Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) had three saves in the win.
BC plays four more games, including Rutgers (Friday, Oct. 22 in Piscataway, N.J), before the BIG EAST tournament quarterfinal round when BC plays at Villanova Nov. 2, 1999.
