CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - - The Boston College women's soccer team earned its seventh shutout, defeating Villanova 4-0 Sunday in front of 400 people at the Newton Campus Soccer Field. The Eagles lifted their record to 9-5 overall and remain at 2-2 in the BIG EAST conference.
Four different Eagles scored as BC drove in at least four tallies in a game for the third time this season. Mary Guarino (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) found the back of the net early (3:08), receiving a feed from Meghan Moore (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara) in the right wing for the 1-0 lead. The senior forward now has 11 goals to date and 27 offensive points, she has scored at least one goal in eight contests.
In the 29th minute, Katie Murphy (South Windsor, Conn./South Windsor) registered her second goal of the season and third in her three-year career, receiving feeds from Guarino and Moore to punch it in the right post.
BC led 2-0 after one half, outshooting the Wildcats 14-4 en route to 31-9 Eagle offensive barrage for the game.
Murphy, in the middle third, set up Katherine Halloran (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) who then fed Jillian Livolsi (Northport, N.Y./Northport) for the game's third goal at the 49:20 mark.
Senior midfielder Janice Collein (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) posted her first goal of the season, receiving a pass from Halloran in the 64th minute.
BC goalkeeper Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) was forced to make two saves for the shutout that she shared with Alice Lehne (Troy, MI/Seaholm), who entered with 18 minutes remaining. Lehne protected the shutout with her two saves, including a save on a confrontation with the Wildcats' leading striker Lauren Sellers (Yardley, PA/The Peddie School) 10 yards in front of the net with six minutes left.
Janel Schillig (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) had nine saves in goal for the Wildcats.
The Eagles play at New Hampshire Tuesday (Oct.19). Game time is at 3:30 p.m.
