Chestnut Hill, Mass. - No. 17 Harvard University defeated host Boston College 4-0 in non-league competition Tuesday at Newton Campus Soccer Field. The Crimson improved their record to 8-1-1 while BC fell to 8-5, dropping its second consecutive contest.
Eight different players contributed to Harvard's scoring cause led by a goal and assist effort from freshman Joey Yenne (St. Cloud, Minn.). Both Colleen Moore (Newton, Mass.) and Ashley Berman (Portland, Ore.) each dished out two assists. Beth Totman (Rockville, Centre, N.Y.), Ashley Mattison (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Caitlin Costello (Solana Beach, Calif.) tallied one goal apiece. The Crimson also got assists from Julia Blain (Burke, Va.) and Caitlin Butler (Winchester, Mass.) in the 4-0 rout.
Cheryl Gunther (Hauppauge, N.Y.) earned five saves in between the posts for Harvard, which outshot the Eagles 23-15.
Yenne's goal broke a scoreless tie in the 24th minute. After Yenne stole the ball from BC defense in the middle third Totman found the back of the net in the 64th minute to give the Crimson a 2-0 advantage. Harvard struck twice within the next 23 minutes.
BC hosts Villanova Sunday (Oct. 17) at 2 p.m. in a double header with the Boston College men's soccer team that hosts Syracuse at 12 noon.
