Varsity Club Hall of Fame

Fran Duggan
- Induction:
- 1987
- Class:
- 1952
- Fran entered Boston College in the fall of 1948, after graduating from South Boston High School and then spending one year at Newman Prep. He was the only local recruit in his class, one that featured New Yorkers Tim O'Connell and Tim O'Toole. Duggan played for the Eagles during a colorful era in college basketball history, as he and his teammates began BC's climb to among the region's - and later the nation's - best programs.
- After playing in 18 games in his first varsity season, Duggan helped the Eagles to a 17-11 mark and the New England Tourney title in his junior season. Known as a "defensive forward," Duggan gained the respect of his teammates and foes for his rebounding and for his ability to shut down opposing teams' star players.
- During the 1950-51 season - one often labeled "easily the most important year in Boston College's post-war basketball revival - the Eagles defeated NCAA champion CCNY in BC's first-ever game in Madison Square Garden. The following year, Duggan and the Eagles registered the program's first 20-win campaign, finishing 22-5. Chief among those victories was a season-ending 64-61 triumph over Holy Cross.
- Inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987.
