Harry Parker Boathouse
On Saturday, October 8, 2008, the long wait was finally over as the Boston College rowing team moved into its new home, the Harry Parker Boathouse.
The boathouse, located on Nonantum Road along the Charles River - between Boston and Newton - is a state-of-the-art building featuring 30,000 square feet of space and a unique architectural design that brings the outdoors inside.
The main common room has space for 60 indoor rowing machines and the building features a first-class weight room and locker rooms. Additional space houses coach and administrative offices, classrooms and is fully wireless compatible.
The building is also environmentally friendly with geo-thermal heating units and special drainage to keep runoff from the boathouse and surrounding parking areas from draining into the Charles River.
Anmahian Winton Architects, the designers of Boston College's new facility, earned two awards for their innovative work. Architect Magazine honored the new structure as a smart and progressive design with its "P/A Award." Consequently, the Chicago Athenum Museum of Architecture and Design presented the architects with "The American Architecture Award for 2008" in praise of the building's cutting-edge characteristics.
