The Best Backcourt in the ACC - Jerome Robinson and Ky Bowman - combine for 50 points.
How It Happened
Boston College advanced to the quarterfinal round of the 2018 New York Life ACC Tournament with a 91-87 win over #5 seeded NC State on Wednesday afternoon. The 12th seeded Eagles will take on No. 4 seeded Clemson on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Â
After NC State scored the first basket of the game, the Eagles would start a 17-5 run over the next 4:35 to take a 17-7 lead with 14:39 remaining in the half. Ky Bowman had eight points and Nik Popovic totaled four during the stretch. BC would extend its lead to as many as 16 points - 45-29 - late in the period, on a transition 3-pointer from Jordan Chatman. A Wolfpack tip-in at the horn made it 45-31 at the break.
BC pushed it back to 17 - the largest lead of the ballgame - after a Chatman 3-ball made it 48-31. But the Wolfpack used 73.3% shooting from the floor to cut into the Eagles' lead. An 11-4 push midway through the half cut it to single digits - 73-64 with 6:45 two play. It was the first single-digit deficit since the 5:29 mark of the first half.  Â
A Bowman coast-to-coast layup pushed it back to 11, but NC State responded with 11 unanswered, tying it at 75-75 with 4:17 to play. The Eagles and Wolfpack traded haymakers the rest of the way, matching big shot after big shot. There were four lead changes and four ties until Jerome Robinson drained a 15-footer with :17 remaining, giving BC the lead for good.Â
NC State called its final timeout to try to tie - or win it - on the final possession, but Robinson came up with the interception on the inbounds and got it ahead to Bowman who was fouled with 11 ticks remaining. After an NC State layup cut it to two - 89-87 - with seven seconds left, a Wolfpack player called for a timeout without having one left. Robinson drained the two technical FT and sealed the victory for BC. Â
